This stunning specimen, with its hundreds of bladelike crystals, is one of the largest stibnites on public display in the world. Weighing almost half a ton, the stibnite crystals were able to grow to such impressive lengths because they formed in a large underground cavity.
The large stibnite crystals you see here are actually made up of tiny building blocks called unit cells. Atoms of antimony 銻原子 and sulfur 硫原子 combine in a regular arrangement in the unit cell, defining stibnite's crystal structure. The unit c ells repeat in a three-dimensional pattern to form a crystal.
